Connecticut Junior Women, Inc., is proud to offer the Maureen Borski Scholarship to local women furthering their education.
The Maureen Borski Scholarship is given to a female college student who will have completed at least two (2)
years of college by June. This includes students in graduate programs, part-time students and students enrolled in
nursing programs. She must also be participating in Community Service. This scholarship is open to any woman who
may or may not be a member of a Connecticut Junior Woman’s club. Scholarships will be judged based on need, scholastic
ability and all around excellence. Previous CJW scholarship winners may apply. All information will be kept confidential.
All completed Maureen Borski Scholarship applications must be submitted to the CJW Education Chairwoman by April 1.
In addition to the application, the following must also be submitted: a copy of your most recent transcript; three
(3) letters of recommendation from outside your family; and an essay of two (2) pages or less on why you chose your
field of study and your Community Service program.
Applicants must be sponsored by a CJW club. CJW clubs may only sponsor one (1) applicant each year. CJW clubs may
accept any amount of applications and then choose one to be submitted to CJW. If a CJW club has more than one worthy
applicant, they may see if another CJW club that has no applicants would sponsor the additional applicant. Please contact
the CJW Education Chairwoman for names of available sponsoring clubs. If an applicant wishes to have her application kept
confidential from the CJW club, the applicant may submit her application directly to the CJW Education Chairwoman with a
letter from the sponsoring club.
Funds will be either directly distributed to the learning institution indicated on the application or distributed to the
recipient after book/tuition receipts are received. The funds must be distributed within 6 months of the award date.
Scholarship winners will be announced at CJW’s Spring Conference.
In 1988, the CJW Scholarship was renamed in honor of past CJW Director Maureen Borski (1978-1980). In 1978, CJW
was a member of the Connecticut State Federation of Women’s Clubs and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Juniors submitted a list of by-law proposals to CSFWC that would put Junior Membership on a more equal standing with the Women’s Clubs.
These proposals were rejected. Maureen was instrumental in handling the resignations of Junior Membership and turning then into CSFWC,
and drawing up proposed by-laws for the Connecticut Junior Women, Inc. Those by-laws were voted on and accepted in 1979.
